right now each trial is worth one point. this does not reward you for completing more difficult trials. i propose a scoring system where each trial is worth the number of competitors divided by  those that complete it. so if there were 100 competitors and everyone completed the trial they would still each get 1 point (100/100) but if only 50 completed it those that did would get 2 points (100/50) and if only one person was able to do it they would get 100 points (100/1) this system greatly rewards you for completing more difficult trials.

Why would we need this?

With the scoring method above, the top riders at a Trials comp like the ones we have at Unicons would only focus on the hardest lines and never do the rest. Maybe. But I guess you never know how many riders will be able to complete the hardest lines, so you might have to hedge your bets and do all the other lines anyway? In which case it doesn't matter that they have points.

I think scoring is fine the way it is right now.

John, trial courses are very to often over crowded. Having expert ride beginner lines would just be a waste of time and it would over crowd even more the beginner lines. The way it is right now, if you complete all the medium lines, you don't have to do any of the beginner lines because if you can complete all the medium ones, for sure the beginner ones will be very easy to complete.

I agree that the actual system is aproved now and seems to work very well for top riders and beginners as well. Weighted points will be pain in thass for riders and host.

Having been one of the people that was responsible for taking people's cards and entering them into the system at Unicon, yeah, this would be a nightmare to calculate and return the results.  Also, there would be an unnecessarily huge gap between the top people and everyone else (one person gets one obstacle no one else can get and immediately gets a 100-point lead...).  I have to admit, I really like the current system, I feel like it reduces overcrowding on the beginner lines.

But, I'm interested in hearing what you had envisioned.  What did you want to see changed?  Fewer riders on the beginner lines, or more people attempting the harder lines?  Or something else entirely?

One idea on this :

We can decide to make different groups of lines : A (easier) to F (harder).

Like this : A and B for beginner, C and D for medium, E and F for best rider. Everyone must ride all lines (but like now if you succeed the medium lines you don't need to ride beginner lines).

And A/B : 1 point ; C : 2pts ; D : 3 pts : E : 4pts and F : 5 pts.

That's reward the best riders and it's not a huge reward like 100pts...

And than can make differents between 2 riders if one succeed one F line

The above suggestion gets by the need for all that data entry. And it could also be done in more simplified form, such as having 2 or 3 different colors. Lines marked in blue, for example, would be the easy ones. A rider that completes all the yellow (medium) lines would be allowed to skip the beginner lines, and then concentrate on the red ones.

John, you discribe how it is right now ;)

What Olaf said.

Antoine, dividing the lines into six different category would make organization and building so much more complicated than or is right now. Think about how hard it would be to choose which line goes on which category.
